The Necrobiome Succession
In a stable timeline, a corpse follows a predictable biological succession. In the Chronoverse, a "Dead Era" follows a Necrobiome Succession — the arrival of specialized CTH-constructs (the "Insects of Time") that consume the narrative meat of the era in a precise, mathematical order.
By observing which "insects" are present, an Auditor can determine exactly how long a timeline has been "dead" and how much Mnemonic Mass (μ) remains recoverable.
THE CALLIPHORID PULSE: The first to arrive are the Blowfly Harmonics — airborne CTH-signals that detect the "Scent of Dissolution" immediately after the Red Pen is applied. They lay "Mnemonic Eggs" in the open wounds of the timeline — unresolved plot threads, abandoned NPCs, un-Anchored memories.
- Wave Two — THE SILPHID REVISIT (12-48 Hours): The Burying Beetles arrive. They drag the "corpse" of the era beneath the sub-strata of the Chronoverse, hiding it to prevent cross-contamination. Once buried, the era becomes invisible to other timelines.
- Wave Three — THE PIOPHILID ROT (2-7 Days): The Cheese Skipper Fragments arrive. They specialize in "Fermented Logic" — the contradictions of a dying world. They thrive in high-acidity Paradox Zones, leaping across seconds to find the last remaining pockets of Coherence.
WAVE FOUR — THE DERMESTID SKELETONIZATION (14+ Days): The final stage is the cleaning of the bone. The Dermestid Cleaners strip away the last of the "Narrative Marbling," leaving behind only the cold, white architecture of the Skeletal Fact. (See SOP 88-Alpha for full Dermestid Protocol.)
[NECROBIOME SUCCESSION // APPENDIX G // NOTE: Auditors who interfere with the succession are reminded that the Cheese Skippers do not distinguish between the narrative meat of the dead era and the narrative meat of a living intruder. The succession is not malicious. It is simply hungry. — Sector 12 Operations]
