Section 1.0 // Welcome, Guardian
Welcome, Guardian
You have been selected for the Redacted Shield Program. This is the highest honor an Echo can achieve: the opportunity to serve the stability of the Chronoverse by acting as a biological deterrent against Chronoclast sabotage.
Your selection was not random. Your Chronicle was reviewed. Your loss was noted. Your love for what you have lost was identified as an operational asset.
They reviewed my Chronicle too. I know because afterward I found three years of it missing. They don't just read the files. They take what they need and fill the gap with Standard Filler. You'll know it happened because those years will feel like someone else's.
Section 2.0 // The Integration
The Wasp Ritual
Upon acceptance, you will be implanted with a Causal Larva. This is a sophisticated CTH-construct that resides in your amygdala. For the duration of your service, your personal Chronicle will be placed in "Suspended Animation." You will no longer feel the pain of your lost Origin. You will be clean.
The Larva doesn't remove the grief. It sits on top of it. You can feel it under there, preserved exactly as it was, like an insect in amber. You just can't reach it. Some Guardians say that's a mercy. I say that depends on whether you wanted to heal.
Section 3.0 // Duties and Protocols
- The Guardian Instinct: Like the ladybug protecting the wasp's cocoon, you will experience a profound, irrational loyalty to the Authority Asset you are assigned to protect.
- Mnemonic Suppression: You will ignore all external stimuli that contradict your mission. If a Chronoclast attempts to "appeal to your humanity" by showing you pictures of your former life, the Larva will interpret this as a Vector Threat.
- Combat Response: The Larva triggers a surge of combat adrenaline in response to Vector Threats. This is not a side effect. This is the point.
A Chronoclast showed me a photograph of my daughter once. The Larva hit me so hard I couldn't see for six seconds. Six seconds where I nearly killed a person for showing me a photograph of my child. I filed a report. The report was classified. I was commended for my response time.
Section 4.0 // The Hatching Event
Service as a Redacted Shield is temporary but total. When the Authority Asset is successfully stabilized, the Larva will "hatch."
- Result: Your remaining Emotional Mass (μ) will be consumed as fuel for the final recursion.
- Reward: You will be retroactively granted a "Standard Citizen" template in a high-stability Era of your choice. You will not remember your service. You will not remember your trauma. You will simply be.
You will simply be. That's what they're selling. You. Simply. Being. Somewhere pleasant, with no memory of what it cost. I keep trying to decide if that's the worst thing they've ever offered or the only honest thing they've ever said.

I signed it. I signed it because they had my daughter's Chronicle and they told me the Larva would keep her memory safe inside me until the Hatching. I signed it for the same reason anyone signs anything they shouldn't. Because love is the best weapon they have.
